about

Above all else, Johnston is a Midwestern weaver. She embraces weaving as both a physical practice and a language. She is drawn to its metaphors, its connective nature, and the traces of fiber-based thinking woven into our everyday speech. She is captivated by the softness and intimacy of fiber, using the medium to share stories, investigate memory, and explore the connections between people, materials, and lived experiences. Through fiber and its extensions into sculpture, Johnston conveys ideas that her words alone may fail to articulate.
